Book Rating System

Rating Overview

Raters include all members and users of the system. They include opt-in individuals who are interested in and agree to provide their input in exchange for free books [or other rated products] and points. They are buyers of products and services within the network who rate their experiences/satisfaction. Rating is made available when a member’s record verifies the member is involved with the transaction being rated. Rating is controlled and monitored to insure integrity and reliability.

In some cases, the subjective data obtained from rating is combined with objective sales transaction data to provide a clear picture of both products and services. The system is designed to improve with constant member input making details subject to change.

Books are rated before a title is added to the network for sale. Once a title is rated high enough to be available, additional rating requested by the author/publisher to further promote their work can be done by secondary level raters.

Raters specify the:

  • specific type material they volunteer to read

  • preferred eBook formats; audio or print when applicable

  • level of rating—initial or secondary

  • quantity of material they would like to be offered

  • timing of rating opportunities, including temporary periods of inactivity

Rater Requirements

Raters are required to:

  • be interested in the type material they volunteer to read

  • be honest/truthful in their ratings

  • follow the general rating guidelines

  • complete their rating in a timely manner

Raters are not required to:

  • accept every book offered

  • read the entire book*

  • fill in all rating answers*

*Rater rewards vary by the quality of rating on each title. They are not penalized for not finishing low quality work.

Rewards for Rating

Rating can be its own reward—helping others get value for their money, discovering and helping talent/quality prosper, as well as enjoying the process.

Direct rewards include:

  • Free eBooks, audio books, or occasionally print

  • Earn system points to spend like cash

  • Building Great Rate reputation for special recognition and perks

  • Special/Bonus Perk Points*

Ratings requiring greater commitment of time offer more system points. Points can be used like cash/currency or in combination with cash.

*Perk Points are bonus points earned for quality rating over time, certain purchases, and as determined by individual providers. Perk Points are normally specific to an author or provider; example: an author might reward fans with autographed merchandise or special events, etc. The system will also provide Perk Points in addition to standard points for valuable contributions to improving the system.

Rating Levels

Initial Raters volunteer to read and rate titles not yet in the system matched to their content and style preferences. They earn higher rewards than secondary raters since, at times, they receive lower quality material. Books receiving an overall rating of less than 6 out of 10 may make revisions and resubmit at the initial level.

Secondary Raters are available to titles receiving an initial rating of 6 out of 10 or higher. Additional rating is requested by the author/publisher to further promote their work, or to improve their rating after making manuscript changes after their Initial Rating. Secondary ratings generally involve a larger number of raters.

Rating Marketing

Our system is a simple way to reach self-selected readers once the quality is verified by the "controlled" ratings it receives. Readers specify a minimum rating to be notified of titles meeting their specific interests. Search also includes minimum rating levels. They can purchase direct from us or their preferred vendor, place titles on a future buy list or remove from consideration.

The Author/Publisher is not required to make a rated title for sale through the system. Individual quality standards and career objectives dictate if and when a work is ready for market. Ratings do not become official until the title is offered for sale to members.

Editors and other publishing assistance is rated to faciliate connection to interested clients.

Ratings are continually updated. Members with a confirmed purchase are rewarded for adding to the collective data.

Speaking and other events are rated and may be created by member demand.

Rater location—Providers may choose to specify the location of the rating group/panel. For example, an author/publisher of a book about a specific city may choose preferences to target a local audience or a variety of demographics to serve their business objectives.
